Is it safe to leave car running with AC on?

If the car's cooling system keeps the engine running in normal range, you can keep your car running indefinitely. It's not the best for the engine, but it's not terrible, as most cars are designed to be able to do that. Is that correct? It causes wear and tear on the engine, but it's at low Torque. It's not bad at all per hour.
