Should you leave water dripping to keep pipes from freezing?

The cold water should be let to flow from the faucet. Even at a trickle, running water through the pipe prevents pipes from freezing. Is that correct? If you plan to be away during cold weather, leave the heat on in your home and set the temperature to 55 F.
