What do water softener resin beads look like?

Water Softeners use ion exchange beads that are small and range in size from 0.2 to 1.2mm. These beads are made by combining strands of Polystyrene which are wrapped around in a criss-cross pattern, along with Divinylbenzene which acts like a glue that holds the resin together.
