What does a pressure switch do on a gas furnace?

If the correct vent air pressure is present, the switch will prevent the furnace from running. A pressure switch is designed to sense the negative pressure created by the draft inducer motor during the furnace startup and shut down the furnace ignition if the air pressure is inadequate.
