Electric motors are usually designed to run at 50% to 100% of rated load. 75% of rated load is the maximum efficiency. A 10-hp motor has an acceptable load range of 5 to 10hp and a peak efficiency of 7.5hp. A motor's efficiency decreases when it's less than 50% load.
