What happens when a GFCI breaker goes bad?

More than half of the time, the GFCI breakers are not bad. It doesn't take much fog to cause problems. I have a gfi sockets that do that to me. I used to have my landscape lights plugged into it and every couple of nights it would go off and the gfi wouldn't work.
