What is a dresser coupling used for?

There is a type of Coupling. Two sections of pipe were connected using a pipe fitting. A slip joint is also known as a dresser one. An un threaded fitting is a dresser-type coupling. Rather than attaching by thread, the sleeves on the coupling slide over the pipe ends.
