What is the difference between an arc fault and a ground fault?

The Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter protects against fires caused by faulting. Arcing faults can happen in damaged wires and cords. A ground fault is an electric path that leads to the ground. Current leaks from a circuit cause ground faults.
