What is the difference between farmhouse and apron sinks?

An apron sink sets on top of the kitchen cabinet base while a traditional kitchen sink does not. An apron or farm sink is part of the facing. Once it is installed, the front of the sink will be left exposed and it will slide in and over your counter top.
