What is the difference between single phase and three phase?

A single phase requires a single wire to connect the circuit while 3 phases require 3 wires. The voltage of a single phase is 230V, while three phases the voltage is 415V. The loss in a single phase is maximum, while in three phases it is minimal. The efficiency of a single phase is lower, while in three phases it is great.
