What is the reason for a start capacitor on a motor?

A start Capacitor is used to briefly increase motor starting Torque and allow a motor to turn on and off quickly. A startCapacitor stays in the circuit long enough to quickly bring the motor up to a preset speed, which is usually 75% of the full speed, and is then taken out of the circuit.
