What is the reset button on a water heater for?

The water heater reset button is a safety device that stops the water heater power when the water temperature inside exceeds 180 degrees Fahrenheit. The side note the reset button is sometimes also called the ECO switch (off emergency) or the high-end thermostat safety switch.
