What is zener breakdown voltage?

Electric current is only allowed in forward biased condition when a normal p-n junction diode is used. Is that correct? A junction breakdown called zener is caused by a sudden rise in electric current. The sudden increase in current is called zener current and the sudden decrease in zener voltage is called zener breakdown.
