What makes a cup not dishwasher safe?

Many cups are vacuum insulated. The seal can be broken by the dishwasher's heat. If you don't find a break by the time you get the cup out, the vacuum is gone and the ability to insulate is greatly reduced. Plastic cups may change shape.
