What voltage are doorbells?

Most circuits have an average household current of 120 volts. Some circuits, such as those for electric clothes dryers, require a certain amount of power. Since doorbells have a low voltage requirement, they need a means of converting the 120 volt current to the 8 to 24 volts needed to operate the chime.
