Where does a GFCI go in a circuit?

The first GFCI receptacle and every receptacle downstream of it are protected by multiple-location wiring. The portion of the circuit that lies between itself and the main service panel is not protected by it.The multiple environment cable protects the first GFCI contenter and each water contenter below the (even standard contenters) of the same circuit. However, it does not protect the part of the circuit that lies between them and the main service panel.
