Why do plug ins have holes?

There are holes in the plugs for the electrical appliances. Is that correct? The outlet can hold the plug's prongs more firmly if the bumps fit into the holes. Due to the weight of the plug and cord, this detenting prevents the plug from slipping out of the sockets.
