Why do the batteries in my thermostat keep dying?

The simplest answer to why most thermostat batteries continue to die is that the thermostat is old or simply defective. The temperature settings in a digital wall thermostat have no impact on the use of the battery (for example, lowering the air conditioning in summer will not save the life of your thermostat's battery — it will only save energy).
