Why does my dishwasher drain out the vent?

A lot of water floods out of the air gap when the dishwasher is in use. Is this true? When the gap leaks, it's usually due to a blocked tube from the air gap to the tail piece below the sink. The drain line may need to be plugged or cleaned.
