Why is my refrigerator drain pan overflowing?

There is a drain pan at the bottom of the refrigerator that can cause a cracked or overflowing drain pan which can cause water to drips on the floor behind the refrigerator. Is this true? The defrost drain pan can overflow due to excessive frost caused by a leaking door seal.
